NETA SPA 2017 Fashion Show

The NETA SPA 2017 Fashion Show
The Harraseeket hosts our annual Fashion Show. It is a popular event; so popular that we were starting to have problems with occupancy and fire laws! We will use the same online process for ticketing (EventBrite) that we used for SPA2016.
Make sure to tell your friends about this process so they can reserve seats too when we open the ticket process. (This won’t happen until after the holidays, early 2017.) In the meantime, make sure you are a member of the NETA Yahoo Email group - all Fashion Show announcements will be posted there.
The Fashion Show is a highlight of SPA for many members. Our vendors contribute wonderful items for door prizes every year, and there are many squeals of delight when they are passed to each winner.
You can attend the show just to watch, or take part yourself. It’s a lot of fun and silliness but also you get to see some truly stunning garments. If you don’t believe me, jump into our Flickr albums to see for yourself!
There will be plenty more information about the Fashion Show as we get closer.

SPA 2017 Hotel Details

Freeport offers several hotels and B&Bs, at varying rates, for you to stay at while attending SPA. Here are the details for the hotels that have offered special room rates and events for us every year. You may find that all rooms have been reserved when you try to book a room this late in 2016, but don't panic - there are always cancellations. Just try again, or check out the other lodging in the area.

SPA2017 February 24-26, 2017

Hilton Garden Inn Freeport Downtown

5 Park Street
Freeport, ME 04032
207.865.1433

Room rates are below. Add an extra $5 per night per extra guest. The rate includes all you can eat breakfast buffet. When you reserve your room over the phone, make sure to mention NETA - SPA. No doubt the person you speak to will already know why you are calling, but just to be sure, mention it!
Or, use this web link to reserve online.
This year, there are several rooms available a day earlier at the event rate – come on over on February 23 (Thursday) and you’ll get the event rate below for all three nights.
Single Occupancy: $139.00/night, or $169.00/night for a suite
Double Occupancy: $144.00/night, or $174.00/night for a suite
Triple Occupancy: $149.00/night, or $179.00/night for a suite
Quad Occupancy: $154.00/night, or $184.00/night for a suite
Room tax is 9%.
The cutoff date to reserve a room at this rate is 01.22.17. Any new reservations after that date will be at the customary rate for the season.
Now here’s some fine print.
Keep in mind that the hotel gives us the entire block of rooms for the whole weekend. That is a commitment that has led to losses for them in the past, due to last minute cancellations. In order to keep our low rates and the relatively low cost to use all the common spaces, we need to do our best to ensure that we fill the place. That doesn’t mean, though, that one person can or should call and reserve multiple rooms with the expectation of “giving” them to a friend at the last minute. That typically results in last minute cancellations, and empty rooms when there is always a huge group of people who wanted to stay overnight and couldn’t because nothing was available.
So - to prevent this from occurring:
  • The hotel will require one night’s charge as a deposit to reserve your room for your stay.
  • You must reserve (at least) two nights – Friday and Saturday – to take advantage of the event rate.
  • The deadline to cancel a room is 21 days before the event. After that point, you will lose your deposit unless you can arrange for someone else to take your room. The hotel is very accommodating of last minute transfers - but it’s up to you to find the replacement.

Hampton Inn

194 Lower Main Street
Freeport, ME 04032
207.865.1400

This year, there are some rooms available a day earlier at the event rate – come on over on February 23 (Thursday) and you’ll get the event rate below for all three nights.
The room rate at the Hampton is $105.00 per night, for up to four guests. The rate includes AYCE breakfast buffet.
Room tax is 9%.
The cutoff date to reserve a room at this rate is 01.24.17. Any new reservations after that date will be at the customary rate for the season.
When you reserve your room over the phone, make sure to mention NETA - SPA. No doubt the person you speak to will already know why you are calling, but just to be sure, mention it!
Or, use this web link to reserve online.
Now here’s some fine print.
· The deadline to cancel a room is 21 days before the event. After that point, you will lose your deposit unless you can arrange for someone else to take your room. The hotel is very accommodating of last minute transfers - but it’s up to you to find the replacement.
· There is no deposit required, because the Hampton is not dedicating the entire hotel to our event. There is a limit to the number of rooms available at this rate, however. Typically we come really close to taking all the rooms allotted to us.
The Hampton is down the road a piece from the Hilton, certainly within walking distance on a nice day. However, the Hilton and Hampton also sponsor a free shuttle that runs all day Saturday between each of the three inns, and has been known to stop elsewhere along the route for our members. There is no set schedule for the shuttle - it just goes, and goes, and goes. It will be available to get you to and from the Fashion Show, but there may be a wait while everyone tries to get on at once.
The Hampton is a bit quieter, and is very welcoming to you if you just want to sit and knit and talk in the common spaces. If you want to save a little coin to buy more yarn and don’t mind being in the SPA suburbs, this is a great option. It’s also right next door to a grocery store - MUNCHIES!!!!

Harraseeket Inn

http://www.harraseeketinn.com/
162 Main Street
Freeport, ME 04032
207.865.9377
800.342.6423

Regular Rooms are $170.00 per room per night, up to two guests ($125.00 on Thursday if you want to come in early). Townhouses are $235.00 per room per night, up to two guests ($200.00 on Thursday if you want to come in early). Room tax is 9%.
For additional guests (beyond double occupancy), the charge is $25.00 per extra person + room tax.
This rate includes a full buffet breakfast, and Afternoon Tea, for paying guests. If you aren’t staying at the Inn, you are welcome to purchase tea and other meals.
Reservations are by phone only; make sure to mention NETA - SPA. No doubt the person you speak to will already know why you are calling, but just to be sure, mention it!
The cutoff date to reserve a room at this rate is 01.26.17. Any new reservations after that date will be at the customary rate for the season.

SPA 2017 - Another Weekend of Fiber Fun

When: February 24 - 26, 2017

Where: Freeport, ME. Primary locations are the Hilton, Hampton, and Harraseeket Inns, but several local B&Bs also host our members.

Who: NETA members and friends and passers-by. No admission fees, no registration, just show up!

Why: You know why! It’s a weekend of all the things that make us happy!

What: This is a RETREAT. Stay at one of the hotels, or come up for the day. YOU make the weekend what you want it to be. We provide the foundation, with great room rates, special hotel menus and lots of common space to hang out and work on projects. YOU decide to learn something, or stay in bed till 3:00 in the afternoon, or check out the sights and shopping and great restaurants in Freeport. The only schedule is for the Marketplace hours, and for the Fashion Show. (More on those events later.) We focus on one thing - K.I.S.S. - to guide planning for this event, so we can retain the retreat-y-ness of it.

What Not: This is NOT Stitches Northeast. Don’t expect agendas, schedules, sign-ups, classes, registrations. Some of that stuff may happen if folks offer to teach what they know, but the best thing you can do at SPA is plunk yourself next to someone doing something cool and talk to them about it. This is a small event that always wants to get bigger, and sometimes bursts at the seams. If you need more, there are plenty of real conferences and bigger conventions and more formal events for you. But if you like the idea of just reuniting with really cool people, having a cocktail, talking some trash, and getting some knitting / spinning / weaving / crocheting / hooking / felting / ???? done, this is where you need to be.

What do you do?: Decide if you will stay overnight, or not. Reserve a room, or not. Tell your friends, or not. Then wait. Wait almost a year. That’s the hard part. Then show up to take your room. Unpack, or not. You probably passed by other SPA guests in the lobby of your hotel, so go back out there and have a sit. And let the weekend just happen. As we get closer to next February, there will be plenty of advice about what to pack, what to leave home, what to leave in the car (snow shovel and boots). You’ll get information about the vendor Marketplace, and about each vendor who will be offering their products to you.

Communicate: When you talk about SPA2017 on social media, use the hashtag #NETASPA2017 in your posts so that these posts can be searched and reviewed. Whether on Twitter or Facebook, don’t forget the hash!
