Washington County (NY) Fiber Tour
Last Updated: 05.19.12
Washington County Fiber Tour
Contact Mary Pratt, Elihu Farm
518-753-8939 ~ mailto:elihufarm@localnet.%20com
You can kick off the spring fiber season with the 18th Annual
Washington County Farm and Fiber Tour , which will take place this year
on a dozen different farms across Washington County, NY, April 24 & 25.
The event is free and open to the public, and will run from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m. each day. The Fiber Tour and most of the individual farms’ events
will take place rain or shine; so dress for the weather.
Farmers across the county will open their barns and shops so visitors of
all ages can meet their sheep and lambs, alpacas, and rabbits. You can
also learn about breeding and raising fiber animals including shearing
and fiber processing.
Some farmers will demonstrate how they select, spin, dye, felt or weave
with their animals’ fiber. Of course, visitors can purchase beautiful
fiber products at the farms including fleeces and roving for spinning or
felting, yarn for knitting, and handmade items such as felted scarves
and knitted socks. Ask if any farms have animals for sale.
See www.washingtoncountyfibertour.org
<http://www.washingtoncountyfibertour.org/> for a list of the 12
participating fiber producers. You can download a map and directions to
the farms, along with a detailed hourly listing of over 35
demonstrations, lectures, and hands-on activities planned for the two
days. Make it a weekend in bucolic Washington County, by checking out
the links on the Fiber Tour's web site.
