The SHIPS Project

Last Updated: 01.22.09 (still under construction)

The SHIPS project has been the adopted public service project of NETA for several years. Every year, NETA members knit, crochet, weave or otherwise craft warm hats, socks, and other items for our soldiers overseas. We also knit squares for and assemble an afghan to raffle at SPA in Freeport, ME.

Here is the 2009Afghan:

For 2009, 30 of us each knit one square, from wool donated by Beth C. of Unique One in Camden, Maine. And a few weeks ago, several members got together to assemble it and add a beautiful edging.

Everyone can buy chances, whether you are a NETA member or not, whether you are at SPA or not. Contact a NETA member or watch this blog for more details. 100% of the proceeds (EVERY PENNY) goes to the Ships Project to pay for postage to send comfort and concern to deployed military in many parts of the world. This is a signature project for New England Textile Arts network.

The winner will be announced on Feb. 28 in Freeport.

Last Updated: 01.22.09

Now that vendor entries are up and running, and you are adding your comments and planning your next yarn crawls from all the great information here, it's time for the next phase.

Check back here often over the next few days to see new entries about all the fiber-related fairs that make New England a truly awesome place for knitters, spinners, weavers, dyers, herders of fuzzy wunnerfulness (yes, another new word, Helen...), and everyone who reaps the benefits of knowing these people.

As entries for fairs you have been to are added, why not add a comment on them about your experiences? Tell us about the drive, parking, food and facilities, best vendors or events, must-dos and maybe-not-worth-as-much-time-to-dos. Remember, constructive and tactful comments will be added to the blog - not that we have had any other kind so far.
